University of Edinburgh : Important travel guidance and quarantine support

Important travel guidance and quarantine support

This email has been sent to conditional offer holders whose country of domicile is currently on the UK travel ‘red list’. If the below information does not apply to you, please disregard this email.

Dear student,

The University expects all students to be with us in Edinburgh for the next academic year. We do however understand that a number of our students are facing much higher travel costs.

In particular, travellers from countries listed on the UK’s ‘red list’ will be required to book and pay for mandatory hotel quarantine. Countries rated as red have been identified as at ‘acute risk’ according to the number of Covid-19 cases, the spread of variants and the rollout of vaccines.

Booking your managed hotel quarantine

We expect that there will be high demand for managed hotel quarantine from international students arriving into the UK to start the new academic year.

We would encourage you to wait until you hold an unconditional firm offer before booking your travel to the UK. Once you have an unconditional firm offer, we strongly advise that you prioritise your travel plans if you will be arriving into the UK from a red list country.

You will need to have a flight booked before you can proceed with securing a place in managed hotel quarantine, and you must book a quarantine hotel before you travel or you will not be allowed to board the flight.

Details on how to book managed hotel quarantine can be found via the links below:

Financial support for managed hotel quarantine

We do not want the costs of managed hotel quarantine to be a barrier to you being able to join us in Edinburgh, which is why I am pleased to confirm that the University is offering access to financial support for students who are currently domiciled in red list countries. Our funding will provide up to the full cost of managed hotel quarantine (currently £1,750), depending on your circumstances and needs.

Applications are open for conditional firm offer holders until 15th August. Find out how you can apply via the link below:
